The project

In 2008 the Unilever factory in Loosdrecht had to close down (the food was produced here). The entire machine park was relocated: one part went to Poland, other parts to France, Germany and Switzerland.

Yourtech hired Koninklijke Saan as transporter and mover. The relocation was a sizeable project. The machines had a complex set-up, and in some cases they were so large that it turned out to be quite a challenge to shift them.

Of course Unilever wanted minimal production loss so the production lines had to be operational as quickly as possible. This meant that an exceptionally comprehensive plan had to be set up.

Why Koninklijke Saan?

Before this project Koninklijke Saan and Yourtech had already successfully carried out turnkey machine park relocations. Both companies were already specialised in this area, among others the foods and packing industry. This background was the reason Unilever decided to hire this duo.

Saan and Yourtech complement each other very well. Yourtech takes care of uninstalling and installing all machines and Saan is in charge of handling between these activities.

Both parties have a great deal of experience in such combined orders. This means that the overall lead time of the activities is reduced by 20% compared with traditional methods, when parties plan and carry out their activities separately.

Activities

• assistance in dismantling entire production lines and logistical systems
• loading, transporting and unloading of these parts
• indoor installation and assisting in assembly of the moved parts, throughout Europe (including handling local cranes and transportation when necessary)
• assistance in the coordination between the various Unilever production sites
