Renovation of Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel

In the heart of Amsterdam stands the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel: loved by travelers from around the world since 1975. In 2023, a renovation began to make the hotel future-proof.
Challenging location
The hotel’s location on Kattengat and Spuistraat makes the renovation a very challenging project. Heavy traffic, no space for building materials and equipment, and the hotel will remain open as much as possible during the renovation.
Sustainable renovation
The hotel will be completely renovated and a new inner tower with rooms will be added. On the roof will be the “Atticbar” with stunning views of Amsterdam. Many recycled and upcycled materials will be used. Material from the old hotel will be reused as much as possible.
Logistics hub
KondorWessels handles the renovation. Installer Linthorst is installing the air circulation system in the Renaissance hotel. Koninklijke Saan provided storage, transport and lifting of parts for this from the logistics hub in Diemen.
Because large trucks are not allowed in the inner city of Amsterdam, buffer tanks and air handling units, among others, were stored at Saan. On the appointed day, they were transported to the construction site in smaller, cleaner trucks.
The buffer vessels and components of the technical installation were lifted into the basement using the available tower crane and placed in the right place by our industrial movers. Using our own car loading crane, the air handling units were lifted to the eighth floor and then moved to their proper place.
Because there is no space on the construction site for storing construction materials, logistics hubs just outside the city are a solution for this type of location. Saan has hubs in Diemen, Tilburg and Utrecht with various storage options and located on through roads.
